Cookbooks on the Cheap!

I love collecting cookbooks, I treasure them and remember where each one came from! While I enjoy reading recipes online and saving them in my virtual recipe box, there is something about recipes in print that lures me! I have a full bookcase full of cookbooks and many cooking magazines, but I still get excited over each new cookbook I get. Recently I have discovered a few good and inexpensive ways to add to my collection.

The Library
Obviously you don’t get to keep the cookbooks forever, but it is still an awesome resource. They have tons and tons of cookbooks, just waiting for you to check them out! Take them home, skim through them, and copy the ones you want to keep. Unfortunately, the library is often overlooked. It is free, so take advantage of it!! (I keep a binder for recipes I have printed off)

Thrift Shops
I am a thrift store junkie! I go pretty much every week…and every week I find something cool that I need (oh, and if you are wondering, I always go between 2-4 to get a half price Sonic drink…I know, it is the little things that get me excited). I find looked over antiques, things that can be brought back to life with a little TLC, and COOKBOOKS! You will find both new and vintage cookbook on the cheap. Really, really on the cheap! I recently bought an awesome vintage Betty Crocker cookbook for about $.50. ( I am on a personal mission to collect as many vintage Betty Crocker cookbooks as I can…my birthday is coming up…in case you find any )
These are just two ways to find some awesome recipes on the cheap!

I think you like saying "on the cheap". That would have been a good name for your blog!

Cherie,

Ok, I think you are the one with the tricky mind! I just purely threw it out there that I am trying to collect them...and I have a birthday coming up!

Dad,

I do like saying "on the cheap", it is a part of my everyday language and that was going to be my blog name...except someone stole it before I got to it!

Actually, if you remember I made the phrase up and then everyone started using it after me:) Ha Ha!

I knew you were a kindred spirit! I do the same thing. My palms get all sweaty whenever I find a great cookbook at the thrift shop (with a Diet beverage in hand)! One of my most prized possession is a 1930 Boston Cooking School Cookbook I got at a thrift store!

I knew there was a reason we became fast friends! We are so much alike! I also do the thrift store/Sonic Happy hour thing atleast once a week. My daughter hates that I have to check out every cookbook before we can move on and at the library I check out cookbooks every time I go!!

Kimi-you are not the only junkie out there :)

Tightwad mom-I am jealous of your precious find...I have yet to find something that cool!

Tiffanee-we sure are a lot alike...it is scary! People think I am crazy when I tell them I go thrift shopping every week and ALWAYS get the Sonic drink!

I like the way you think. I have over 200 cookbooks already and haven't even gotten started! I'm going to head to the thrift store as soon as I can and take a look!
