Faith of a Foodie

Right now I am reading, "Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World" by Joanna Weaver. I have to say that the first time I started reading it I didn't make it very far. I recently picked it up again and I am loving it. I am learning so much about how I need to be transformed into a "Mary", when I am clearly a born "Martha". I just wanted to share a little about what the Lord is showing me through this book.

In Luke 10 you will find the story about two sisters, Mary and Martha. Mary sat at Jesus' feet listening to His every word, while Martha was busying herself in the kitchen trying to serve Him. Martha became quite upset that Mary wasn't helping with all of the preparations. When she went to complain to the Lord, he gently scolded her by saying that Mary chose the better part.

We are all busy in life...doing things that "have" to be done and often neglecting the most important thing, which is sitting at the feet of Jesus. As the story goes on, you can see Martha change. She keeps cooking and cleaning and all of those things that need to be done, but she learns that that isn't what it's all about. She learns to calm down and put her trust in Christ.

"Be still and know that I am God", Psalm 46:10.

This verse sounds so simple, but it can be so hard to do. This book has just been the reminder that I need to keep my eyes on what is important, keep my focus on Him, and to just be still!

I love that verse... it has spoken to me so many times throughout my life. That sounds like a book I should look into (I am a Martha too). Thanks for mentioning it, I'll check it out.
