How to Clean Stained Mugs

Surely I am not the only one whose coffee mugs become stained over time.

It wouldn't be very frugal to toss all of my mugs with white interiors, but their unsightliness almost got the best of me today.

My husband has spent a lot of time accumulating Starbucks city mugs (like the Seattle one in the picture) everywhere he travels. Do you know why the Seattle one is so cool? Fun fact of the day...that is where the first Starbucks is located. We have mugs from the Grand Canyon to Germany and many places in between.

Anyways, I don't think he would be very happy to come home and find all of our mugs had been tossed so I got out my baking soda and my lovely scotch brite pad and got to work!

All I did was sprinkle baking soda in the mug. I ran the scotch brite pad under hot water and got scrubbing. The coffee/tea stains came right off. Now my mugs are looking brand new again!

If you don't have a scotch brite pad don't go out and buy it just for this...try a dish towel or an old toothbrush. But, I have to add that I am lovin' scotch brite pads...they are awesome to have on hand in the kitchen.

Anyone else love them?

I've been meaning to clean the scratch marks from my ivory colored dishes and was going to use our commericial cooktop cleaner but it will be more economical to try baking soda first. thanks for the tip!

Good idea. I love those Starbucks mugs. My favorite one has a yucky stain in the bottom. I will try it. Thanks for the tips.

You must've read my mind... I was just thinking "Boy, I need to throw out my nasty coffee cups so I don't mistakenly give them to my friend when we enjoy tea" :)

What a GREAT tip... I am going to try it. :)

Oh, I LOVE scotch brite pads, they are handy wee things. :)

Do you not use bleach? Pour a bit of bleach in the mug & fill with water; let sit for a few minutes: no scrubbing required!
