Reusing Old Shirts?

Think your t-shirts have come to their time of death? I was going through my husbands under shirts last year, all 7,826 of them, and getting rid of the holy or stained ones. Ladies, I think men would wear their undershirts for 20 years if we didn't step in.

So...I did what I deemed necessary and got a basket of them to throw out.

Then I had a frugal epiphany and decided to cut them into rags! It has worked out great! I am decluttering and repurposing all at the same time.

Do you repurpose your old t-shirts?

I do the same thing! But...his favorite tees I have to toss or he'll notice that I cleaned out the drawers!

Ha! My Grandma taught me this at a young age!! She went so far as reusing socks and underwear too! I have recently found out I am pregnant...have been gathering materials to make diapers...my daughters old tee shirts are fixing to become the lining in her new baby's diapers!!!

Emily,

Smart! I always ask him if I can throw some away, but he wants to hold on to them forever...maybe I just need to do it and not ask!

Mama D,

Not sure about the underwear...LOL!

What a great idea to use them for diaper liners! So smart...

Flannel shirts make for good baby wipes too. http://going-green-mama.blogspot.com/2009/01/wiping-it-up-introduction-to-cloth-baby.html

It WAS rather embarrassing to be dusting furniture with Grandpa's old underwear as a kid....I don't go quite that far...but tee shirts are fair game!!!
Thanks for the link about the wipes...I am planning on doing that one too!

T-shirts, socks, sweatshirts, towels - it is all nicely (or not so nicely LOL) cut up and in the cleaning rags. UW? well by the time I let those go they are bad enough to be ripped small and thrown in the compost.

Christy,

I love that...UW in the compost! Awesome!

I do this with all our old t-shirts. They make great rags.

What a neat idea! Do you sew around the edges? Or just cut them up? I've never done it, but it seems like it would be a really nifty idea!

Katie said...

Amy,

No need to sew...just cut them up!

Thanks! I will have to try that!
