How to Throw a Budget on a Shower: Step #5

5. Use What You Have

I opted out of buying paper products and used what I had, except for the napkins.

I used cream mugs that I already had. I didn’t have enough so my mom brought some of her neutral mugs. I used a a carafe from my mom and one from my mother-in-law for coffee and hot water.

I have glass plates that are hand painted with flowers on them. They went great with the “Love in Bloom” theme I had going. I also used my real silverware. I wrapped them up in some paper napkins and made a little paper napkin rings to keep the paisley thing going.

Depending on the size of your party you may not have enough things on hand, but maybe a friend would loan some stuff to you. I borrowed a few things and it all worked out nicely.

My total expense was only $1.50 for paper products. If I had bought cute plates, Styrofoam cups, and decent plastic silverware I would have spent around $15.00.

That is a big savings!

Now I want to hear from you...don't be shy!

What are your tips for saving money when throwing parties?

I've really enjoyed reading these posts re: party on a budget. I have to say, I've never thought of any of these ideas. You are very creative. I really love the colors you used.

Like Phoebe, I've really enjoyed this mini-series! Having 8 sisters and 2 brothers, there's PLENTY of shower-throwing! Only 2 bridal showers to go (if/when they get married) and who knows about baby showers!

Miriam, Wow, you sure do have a lot of showers with all of those siblings. This was my only sister...so not too many for me to throw!

What a great idea! I have never thought about throwing a party without using paper products either. I must say, it all looks BEAUTIFUL! Very nice.

Have you ever thrown a Christmas party using these same techniques? If so I bet it was beautiful.

@ Misty, it saved a bunch of money! Thanks so much!!

@ Phoebe, no I haven't. Christmas seems to be such a busy time that I have never had a Christmas party. Maybe one day...
