Packing the Pantry

This week I picked up a few basics and stuff to make all my soups. Oh...and some beautiful flowers at Aldi for $2.99. Daniel got busy putting them in the vase and I forgot to take a picture. You'll just have to take my word for it, they are really pretty.

Total spent at Aldi - $27.91 (I bought that dumb sparkling cider for our party, and forgot to use it)

Total spent at Meijer - lost my receipt, sorry :( , but it was around $8 !

Looks like a good deal at Aldi's.
I went and took the kids and hubby and spent about the same but right off the top , hubby got one of those huge pizza in the deli for close to $7(I think) so we didn't get as much as I would like to have gotten. Here the Aldi's were out of apples and a few other thing b/c of the holiday shopping.

What kinds of soup are you going to be making?

I have found that some of the dollar stores that have freezer sections available sometimes have frozen mixed vegtables. I have tried them and they are just as good as some of the other brands. Might want to check it out next time you are there. I personally like the one in by the Walmart on Smiley Blvd.

Busy Mom,

I love Aldi's so much. Aren't you surprised how much you can get for a small amount?

Are their Pizza's good? I have never bought one.

I made 4 dinners of beef cabbage soup (I posted recipe a few days ago) and 3 of taco soup. Today I am starting on beef vegetable soup. I love to have soup in the freezer, it makes for a nice warm, easy meal!

Pam,

Thanks for the tip, I didn't realize they had vegetables. Aldi has them for $.95, but they don't have lima beans or regular green beans (only skinny long). I will have to check it out!

I got about 40 of the green giant steamers for free last year, and my stockpile is almost gone...where is that deal when I need it?

I was wondering, does your food budget include your toiletries, cleaning products etc and ohter misc incidentals?

Anonymous,

Yes, my food budget does include my cleaning supplies, laundry, toiletries.

The way that I get most of that stuff is through CVS. They have a program called extra care bucks. I get a ton of free things...even make-up. The only make-up I even pay for is my pur minerals powder (I am addicted)!
