Crock Pot Apple Oatmeal

Well, I am back with a recipe to help you celebrate "National Apple Month"!

Didn't know there was such a thing? Well, neither did I. That is, until my friend and I came across "S'mores Day" in a cookbook. S'mores day sparked a special interest in researching these grand old days and months.

In honor of "Apple Month" I will be bringing you apple-ish recipes all month! (Actually it will be going into October because that is "Apple Month", too!)

If that just doesn't get you all excited, my friend, I really don't know what will!

So, I have been hitting the gym a lot lately! Seriously, like EvErY morning. I come home sooooo hungry I could eat a horse. I came across this recipe at A Year of Slow Cooking, and knew I had to try it.

It is just perfect for my mornings. I throw the ingredients in, go run, dream about this healthy apple-y goodness, and a little over an hour later it is waiting for me...just wonderful!

Gotta love the old crock pot!!!

1 cup oats
2 cups milk
1 apple, chopped
2 tablespoons brown sugar, packed
1 tablespoon vanilla
pinch of salt
cinnamon

Add oats, milk, and apple to crock pot. Add brown sugar, vanilla, and pinch of salt. Cover and cook on high for 1-2 hours or low for 2-3 hours. Garnish with cinnamon.

Serves:3-4

Really you should check out the "Days and Months"...some provide a good laugh

Today is:
National Cream-Filled Donut Day

Tomorrow is:
Make a Hat Day

This looks SO yummy! Oh it makes me want to jump in the car and grab an apple at the store for tomorrow morning... :)

One question for you, are you using old fashioned oats or the quick cooking oats in the crock pot? Might be a silly question, but I wasn't sure... so don't laugh girl. :)

I can't wait for more apple recipes... :)

P.S. Good job on getting those workouts in... :)

Misty,

Why don't you just make it without the apple...if you want it in the morning! Or...if you have another fruit, you could add it.

I see lots of variety with this basic recipe :)

Ummm...I use quick oats, but I am sure it doens't matter. It just may take a little longer? Sorry, I it appears I need to brush up on my oat knowledge!

I would think Old Fashioned Oats would take quite a while longer than Quick Oats.

Personally....I don't care for old fashioned oats...a little TOO gaggy for me!!!

I think this sounds SO yummy....except Chuck is ready to eat AS SOON as his feet hit the floor...so I may adapt this recipe for the good ol' microwave!!!

I also think blueberries might be good in it!!! You know...like blueberry/vanilla....maybe sprinkled with granola too!!!!

Hugs,
Cherie

Cherie,

Thanks for the oat input!

Yeah, I think you could easily put it in the microwave.

I think you are onto something with the blueberry idea!!

Fabulous recipe! I was looking for something to make for breakfast now that the weather is about to turn. I am an oatmeal fan, so I can hardly wait to try it. I am loving that today is National Cream Filled Doughnut Day...I think I will go celebrate!

Tightwad Mom,

Yes, I too was wanting to participate in the cream filled donut day.

Make a Hat Day? Yeah, not wanting to participate in that one very much!!

There is nothing like oatmeal on a cool autumn morning (or a cold winter one for that matter!) and your apple oatmeal looks lovely. How wonderful it can be made in a crockpot as well!
