Zesty Barbeque Chicken - Crock Pot

It really doesn't get more simple than this recipe.

First things first, go dust off your trusty crock pot.
Now, throw in some frozen chicken breasts, toss in the remaining ingredients and in several hours you will have dinner!

I made this barbeque chicken during my last freezer cooking day. (If you aren't already, you definitely need to utilize the old crock pot when it comes to freezer cooking!)

When it came time for serving day, I just thawed it out and gave it a quick warm up on the stove. It was so simple and delicious!

(Now, those homemade buns...they weren't quite so quick, but they sure were tasty!)

6 chicken breasts, frozen
1 (12 oz.) bottle barbeque sauce
1/2 cup Italian salad dressing
1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

Place chicken in crock pot. In a bowl, mix the barbeque sauce, Italian dressing, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce. Pour over chicken. Cover. Cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours.

*You can use thawed chicken, if you wish. Your cooking time will just be shorter.

Katie,
I recently stumbled upon your blog and you seem to be so much like me in that we try to feed well but inexpensively. A quick question--I see you often use chicken breasts. Isn't that expensive? I only buy cheap chicken--thighs and legs even though I know they are more work and messier. Any recipes using those cuts? Thanks.

Alice,

First of all, I am so glad you stumbled on the blog! I really appreciate you reading!!

Occasionally I will buy a whole chicken, but primarily, yes, I do use chicken breasts.

The main reason is just because that is what we like, I am not really a dark meat person...never have really liked it.

Here are two ways I stick to my $40/wk budget and buy chicken breasts!

1. I am not sure where you are located, but if I am patient I can get chicken breasts on sale for $1.79/lb. I ONLY buy at that time and stock up big time because they are not normally near that low. Again, you may be in an area where you can't get a good deal on chicken and I totally understand that it may be cost prohibitive.

2. I buy bone in breasts when they are on sale for $.99 and cut the breast off of the bone. Around here, thighs don't really go much cheaper than that. I then use the bone and scraps to make chicken broth. Kill two birds with one stone. I wrote about that here...

I hope this helps and I am sorry there are primarily chicken breast recipes!

Let me know if you have any more questions!!

Looks delicious! I never would have thought to add Italian dressing! But then, I have a recipe for pork that calls for French dressing and that turns out great!

I'll be trying this very soon...found some frozen chicken breast in the freezer that I didn't have any plans for!

Your chicken looks good, and I love the salad dressing added in. Just the right touch of "pucker"

Alison,

Your pork recipe sounds very interesting...I bet it is great! I think the dressing gives is a little zing!

Melynda,

Pucker...I like that! It does, it isn't just barbeque-y, there is a little depth to the flavor!
